I would like to refer to four fundamental difficulties; to start life, to age, to suffer from pains, and to die, which we cannot avoid as long as we are human-beings.<\/p>\n
As an example in modern medication, life-prolonging treatment can be raised.\u00a0 Although severe premature infants are successfully given birth nowadays, in some cases, artificially ending the life of a newborn is forced to carry out for hopeless infants nurtured by life-prolonging treatments. It causes intolerable dilemma to the family and the health care providers.<\/p>\n
Medical genetics might allow us to manage aging in future, and to enjoy an extremely long life.\u00a0 However, euphoria would not be fulfilled by having a long life.\u00a0 I strongly believe there is a \u201cMeaning in Life,\u201d in other words, \u201cQuality of Life\u201d is substantial.\u00a0 Gross National Happiness in the Kingdom of Bhutan could be taken as an example.\u00a0 Several kinds of distortions brought about by a super aging society should be acknowledged, understood, and then should be extracted.<\/p>\n
Getting rid of all diseases is an everlasting challenge for us.\u00a0 Nevertheless, various new unknown incurable diseases have arisen endlessly despite of remarkable progress of medicine.\u00a0 This is the reality.\u00a0 How can we cope with such an unbearable reality then?\u00a0 Why are we sometimes inspired by the stronger power of life and splendid aura of serious patients?\u00a0 I definitely insist that it is because a life is brightened up when one faces up bravery to hardship.<\/p>\n
The patient\u2019s death itself may be a defeat for us and spiritual treatment would be barely made after the death.\u00a0 It is usually approached religiously.\u00a0 September 9th<\/sup>, 2011, I lost my son, Harumitsu, who was 6th<\/sup> grade of medical school when he was killed by a traffic accident.\u00a0 Emergency Life-saving Technicians devoted all possible efforts on him but he died; his face was not injured much unbelievably, and looked smiling even.\u00a0\u00a0 So many of his friends and teachers came to his funeral, and I could get to know from them some new aspects of my son, which I hardly knew as his father.\u00a0 My practically non-existed son showed us his natural existence through their memories. They helped me a lot to find a way to get out of my deep depression from his loss.\u00a0 \u201cLife time\u201d in Japanese pronounced \u201cJumyo,\u201d which means \u201cgifted life\u201d in the Chinese characters used for the word.\u00a0 This definition made me believe that my son has achieved his gifted life.
